I am just wondering does anyone else think it is so ridiculous that when you are applying for a protective cert in joint names and you also have debts in your name only and you husband name only that the court want to charge you 500 euro each which is 1000 euro up front i really think that really takes the biscuit as not only are you already in debt but you now have the pressure of finding extra money for the pc why should it not be per household

Welcome to the forum tanya2106.

I think plenty of people will agree with you that charging a couple a total of ΤιΌ1000 for their protective certificates is an unnecessarily high amount.

Anything that serves as a disincentive to dealing with major debt problems seems to be unwelcome. Fees at this level may even go beyond being a disincentive and make entering the process impossible for some people.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this - it will be a subject that many people agree with you about I'm sure.

It unfortunately is a requirement of the court process that the proceedings are taken on an individual basis. In your case Tanya it means two sets of costs which ultimately relate to dealing with the same debts. You must remember however that in order for both you and husband to reach settlement you must propose separate, albeit linked, arrangements.
